What is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy (OT) teaches children  skills that help them succeed in everyday life.  A broad range of skills can be address by OT including: Fine motor skills - movement,  coordination and strength related to using the hands and fingersGross Motor skills - balance and body coordination Self-help skills - dressing/undressing, toileting, self-care routines, self feeding  Self Regulation - the ability to manage reactions, manage energy levels and understand/meet sensory needs Social Skills - interacting with peers including turn taking, initiating play, listening, resolving conflicts, following directions    Executive Function - task initiation, sequencing, task completion, working memory, focused attention and divided attention Sensory Processing - interpreting and organizing sensations from within and outside the bodyThe overall goal of OT is help a child gain independence and confidence so that they can engage in their daily activities with reduced frustration and experience more joy.

What is family-centered occupational therapy?

Simply put, it is OT that takes place outside of the clinic setting where there is a an emphasis on collaboration between the treating OT and the family.  Family-centered services are evidenced-based and considered the gold standard of care.  At Explore and Grow OT we incorporate this model of care the following ways: Early engagement with parents/caregivers to learn about family concerns and priorities Families help determine what goals will be addressed in therapy sessions Family members are encouraged to participate in therapy sessions Monthly collaboration meetings are a part of the treatment package at no extra cost

Do you accept insurance?

We are a fee for service provider and are not in-network with any insurance companies.  We will provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.  We recommend that you call your insurance provider prior to starting therapy to determine your coverage.

Question 4

How much do your services cost?

We believe in upfront pricing with no surprises.  The price of an evaluation is $450.  This is an all inclusive price.  Therapy is charged at a rate of $175 per hour.  Sessions that run longer than one hour are billed an additional $43.75 per 15 minutes.  The monthly parent consultations, collaboration with other team members and the creation of a home program are provided at no additional charge.

Question 6

Where will therapy take place?

Accepted Answer

We believe that children learn best in environments that they are comfortable and familiar with.  We can hold sessions at your home, community settings such as parks and playgrounds or in early childhood learning centers in the Northern Virginia area.  We find that this allows us to problem solve and make recommendations that are specific to your family's lived experience.

What is a home program?

Accepted Answer

A home program is the recommended practice between sessions.  We aim to make recommendations that fit into your established family routines.  We understand the busy nature of family life and recognize that having one more thing to do can be too much.  That is why we look at tweaking routines to promote learning a new skill rather than adding in a new routine.  Our package price includes the creation of a home program as needed.
